Nick's Musical CV
I was born at a very young age. I had it hard, being an only
twin.
I started hitting things (or drumming) for fun aged 11 and 3
quarters.
Initially self-taught, I took formal drum lessons from the age of
16 and 3 quarters.
I then spend many years building/repairing drums, working as a drum
teacher and playing drums whenever the opportunity arose, and helped to run
a successful drum shop in Northants.
I've drummed with some big names, met some great people and learned
a lot along the way.
I was a "county player" and also played with NYJO, various orchestras,
big bands and countless other groups and bands. I was playing at jazz clubs
before I was old enough to drink.
I've also demonstrated for several national and international drum
and percussion companies.
I have recently got back in to doing occasional session work, and
am in the process of forming a new band.
I have an abiding interest in drumming as personal development and
have run various drum workshops with this in mind, including drum workshops
for people with learning difficulties and mental health issues.
Despite the many challenges I've faced over the years, I'm still
playing and teaching drums, and am now writing a series of drum books, the
first of which is a beginner's guide to the djembe, in which I guarantee
you will learn all the basic strokes, learn the system of notation and read
/ play / write your own rhythms within an hour, or your money back!
The second book is called The Holistic Drummer and covers everything
you need to know about drumming (and your approach to drumming) that the
various drum books out there don't cover!
I like cozy nights in, long walks on the beach, brandy, sunsets,
philosophy, kites, Velcro, creative people and bubble wrap. And drums of
course.
