Unique Methods, Proven Results
I know what works and what doesn't work. Depending on your own unique
learning style, your level of experience and your own goals, I will tailor
each and every lesson to ensure you make measurable progress, week by week,
lesson by lesson.
Many of the methods I employ can't be bought in a book (just yet!)
However, I am working on this.
I have personally developed and tested many of the methods and techniques
I use. These techniques include those relating to relaxation, performance
anxiety, preparation, co-ordination, ergonomics, rhythmic vocabulary, pattern
development and recognition, independence, interdependence, muscle memory,
solo techniques, improvisational methods, musicality and many other
areas.
Unlike many local "teachers", I do not teach from a text book, which
you are forced to buy and then pay a "teacher" to read to you each
week.
Instead, I teach from many years of experience, sometimes employing
exercises from text books, but often simply fine tuning your playing, or
your attitudes towards your playing.
I offer lessons in all untuned percussion, including djembe,
doumbek, darbuka, congas, bongos, cajon, timbales, full latin set up, various
hand held instruments, clicking and clapping, improvised instruments and
more.
By learning "hand drumming" on a djembe at first, you will learn
much of the required terminology and many of the required techniques which
we can then adapt to play doumbek, darbuka, congas, bongos, cajon etc. Rather
than teach you a few fancy licks on each instrument, I will teach you to
think and play like a percussionist, whatever instrument you pick up. I will
teach you style, rhythmic vocabulary, co-ordination, independence, dynamics,
muscle memory, solo techniques, musicality , group playing and more.
I teach various authentic African tribal and pop drumming styles,
modern western styles including unplugged, brasilian, cuban, afro-cuban,
latin and various other hybrid styles including circle drumming, salsa
etc.
Remember, you learn a lot more from drumming than just
drumming!
